FOUNDATION OF HEARTS CONGRATULATES WELL SOCIETY ON SIGNING OF MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING

The Foundation of Hearts today congratulated the Well Society and Motherwell Football Club on the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, an initiative which sees a giant leap towards fan ownership of the club. Brian Cormack, Foundation chairman, commented:

“We are absolutely delighted with the news from Fir Park and extend our sincere congratulations to all concerned in this momentous event. We know how hard everyone at Motherwell has worked to get to this stage and very much admire the commitment of the Motherwell fans who – through the Well Society – have laid the foundations for this major step along the road.

“Our two organisations share similar aims, and we were delighted to work closely with the Well Society and Motherwell FC for our joint fan ownership day when the teams met at Fir Park back in November. The relationship between our two organisations continues to be strong and constructive.

“These are extraordinary and challenging times for Scottish football, and the Well Society have been one of the pioneers in changing perceptions and understanding of how our clubs might be run. Changing financial and social circumstances demand new ideas, and putting fans and communities at the heart of clubs is, we believe, a viable option.

“The Well Society have laid down a blueprint and a foundation for the future ownership for their club. We wish them every success as they now enter into the advanced negotiations with Les Hutchison and as they seek to attract more Motherwell supporters to back them as they move forward.”
