ANN BUDGE WELCOMES DONALD CUMMING ON TO CLUB BOARD
Hearts chair Ann Budge has welcomed Foundation of Hearts director Donald Cumming on to the club board.
Donald, a lifelong Hearts supporter and respected Edinburgh-based lawyer, has joined Foundation chairman Brian Cormack in the Hearts boardroom following Ian Murray’s decision to step down in May to concentrate on his work as an MP.
Donald will be tasked primarily with working closely with the club to devise a governance model that will ensure that the handover of club ownership from Ann (BIDCO) to the Foundation in May 2019 is seamless.
Ann said: “Donald has been a terrific supporter of FoH for a long time. He has already provided help to both the Foundation and the club.
“He is genuinely interested in understanding the governance issues and I think his background will allow him to actually dig a bit deeper and ask the right questions.
“Donald is a good listener so everyone that has views on how it should work, he’ll take that on board. With his legal brain, he will make sure that we think beyond the obvious.
“We have to build something new. There are a number of things that have been proven to work within existing models and other things that have been proven not to work. It’s trying to take all of that on board and start with a blank piece of paper and say, how can we overcome these obstacles?
“It’s not about what happens in two years’ time or four years’ time, or whatever; it’s about what is going to happen in 10, 15 years’ time as the people and personalities change.”
Ann attended the Foundation’s recent pitch plot ceremony at Tynecastle and enjoyed mingling with the pledgers. She added: “The whole idea behind the pitch plot ceremony is to show appreciation and to say thank you. Just speaking to a few of them, they really enjoyed the day.”
